HAYES LEADS EXETER CHIEFS AT CORNISH PIRATES

exeter chiefs samoan international josh tatupu, image courtesy exeter chiefsSkipper Tom Hayes is back to lead Exeter Chiefs in today's pre-season friendly against Championship outfit Cornish Pirates at the Mennaye Field, Penzance (1700).

The Irishman, who was an ever present in the Aviva Premiership for the Chiefs last season, was only a spectator as the Chiefs won 47-10 at Connacht last Saturday. Minor neck surgery over the summer meant Hayes has been held back until today.

Plymouth Albion have been boosted by the news that influential captain Sean-Michael Stephen has been passed fit to face Rotherham tonight at Brickfields (1945).

Stephen missed last week's 34-23 defeat at London Welsh due to a hip injury.

2011-2012 RFU CHAMPIONSHIP FIXTURES

Last season's play-off finalists Cornish Pirates will kick off the new RFU Championship season at Moseley on Saturday September 3.

Bristol Rugby also travel on the opening day, jousting against Doncaster Knights, while Graham Dawe's Plymouth Albion begin the new season at home to Esher at Brickfields.

CHIEFS UNCHANGED FOR TONIGHT'S PLAY OFF DECIDER

With a slender three points separating the two teams following Chiefs' 9-6 home victory last Wednesday, the winner of tonight's deciding leg is set to achieve the ultimate prize of Premiership rugby in 2010/11.

CORNISH PIRATES

The Cornish Pirates first home match in the Championship play-offs will be against Plymouth Albion at Camborne on Sunday (1500).

Both sides lost their play-off openers, the Pirates 19-12 at Bristol and Albion 10-9 at home to Bedford, but there was - at least - a bonus point for each.
