COUNTIES CRICKET Quarter-final places up for grabs

There are 18 counties still in contention for places in the quarter-finals of this season’s National Counties Trophy ahead of today’s intriguing penultimate round of group matches.

Only Lincolnshire in group one and defending champions Norfolk in group two cannot progress any further although the hopes of a number of other counties, which are currently only mathematical, could be extinguished today.

COUNTIES CRICKET Trophy team news May 4/5

Former Warwickshire, Derbyshire and Glamorgan all-rounder Graham Wagg will make his seasonal debut for Cornwall against Buckinghamshire at Tring on Sunday in Group Three.

Wagg, a former Shropshire captain, is joined by another former Shropshire man in Xavier Clarke, all-rounder Will MacVicar and debutant Mo Danyaal in the squad for the weekend-double header which also includes Monday’s match against Berkshire at Slough.

COUNTIES CRICKET Trophy team news April 2025

Harrison Ward will take charge of Oxfordshire for the first time as they enter the post-Jonny Cater era in Sunday’s National Counties Trophy Group Three match against Cornwall at St Just.

Ward, who is on a white ball contract with Sussex, has been appointed Oxfordshire’s captain in those formats as successor to Cater who has retired after a 14 year career, 10 of them as captain.

COUNTIES CRICKET XI begin European defence

National Counties XI begin the defence of the Dream 11 European T10 Championship against hosts Spain at the Cartama Oval near Malaga today.

National Counties XI, who are again representing England in the Euros of cricket, won the competition for the second time in three seasons last October and as defending champions they were given a bye to the Championship Week, the final week of the competition which began on September 23.

COUNTIES CRICKET Final round preview/team news

The divisional phase of the Durant Cricket National Counties Championship is set for an exciting finale with all eight of this weekend’s matches having a bearing on at least one of the five issues still to be decided across the four divisions.

Only Western Division One – won by Berkshire last weekend – has been decided with the Eastern Division One title, two relegation places and the two Division Two titles all up for grabs in the final round of three-day matches which start tomorrow.

COUNTIES CRICKET Western Division preview August 11

Durant cricket championshipBerkshire head into their final Durant Cricket National Counties Championship match against Oxfordshire needing only a draw to secure the Western Division One title and a place in next month’s national final.

Berkshire currently head the table by 39 points having won all three of their divisional matches so far but that record may count for nothing if they slip up against Oxfordshire.
