NCCA-Logo MasterEight counties will be in competition for four places in an intriguing final round of group matches in the National Counties Trophy on Sunday.

So far only Cheshire and Cumbria, both in Group One, Norfolk in Group Two and Buckinghamshire in Group Four have secured their places in the last eight with seven of Sunday’s eight matches having a direct bearing on who will join them in the quarter-finals.

Having opened their title defence with a comfortable victory over Cornwall two weeks ago, Dorset suffered back-to-back defeats against Wales NC and Oxfordshire over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend.

Will Smale, Callum Nicholls, Jack Hope-Bell, Henry Hurle and Alex Horton all played their formative county cricket for Wales before joining the first-class ranks.

Buckinghamshire have included teenage batting prospect Daksh Sabherwal in their squad for the first time for the NCCA Cluberly Championship final which starts at West Bromwich Dartmouth today (1030).

Sabherwal, who plays his cub cricket for Chesham in the Home Counties Premier League, has had a prolific summer in Buckinghamshire’s age group teams having passed 1,000 runs in county pathway matches.

There is everything still to play for in an intriguing final round of NCCA Cluberly Championship matches which get underway today.

The Eastern and Western Division titles – both First and Second Division – and the two relegation places have yet to be decided with 14 of the 16 counties in action on an exciting final weekend of the regular season involved in at least one of those issues.
