Plymouth made a promising start, winning the first two races, before losing 62-30 in their Premier League Speedway match at Redcar on last night.
Ben Barker won the opening heat and Kyle Hughes followed up by taking first place in the next race, but Redcar came back strongly with six maximum 5-1 heat wins in the next seven heats.

Torquay United target man Rene Howe scored again as Martin Ling’s Gulls beat Exeter City 3-0 at Plainmoor last night.
New signing Howe also scored in Saturday’s 2-0 pre-season win over Bristol City and has yet to play a full match for Ling’s new-look Yellows.

Cornwall teenage amateur ace Sammie Giles swept to success in the English Women’s Golf Association South West Region girls championship at Lyme Regis Golf Club.
Giles, from St Mellion and already an established member of the women’s county team, carded two over par 148 over 36 holes to finish five shots ahead of runner-up Kyra Horlock from Wiltshire.

There is plenty of regional interest in the 2011 English Boys Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship for the Carris Trophy being staged at Broadstone Golf Club in Dorset over the next four days.
Among a rising young star-studded, international-class field of 132, Hertfordshire’s Callum Shinkwin (Moor Park) defends the trophy he won by seven strokes last summer at Woodhall Spa.
