WOMENS HOCKEY Clifton too hot for Coldfield

clifton ladies hockey club logoClifton Ladies head into Christmas boosted by a superb 6-5 Premier win at mid-table rivals Sutton Coldfield.

Zoe Leach's 66th minute winner crowned a memorable Clifton comeback as the blues rallied from 2-0 and 4-1 down.

Fleur Horner's blues were caught cold by early goals from Charlene Mason and Jane Sixsmith before Josie Rixon claimed her first league goal on 14 minutes.

Sutton were not done and regained a two-goal advantage from Jennifer Parkinson's penalty before Sarah Mills made it 4-1 to the home side.

Els Mansell's 31st minute goal gave Clifton some half-time hope, realised when Mansell's 36th minute second of the game and Liz Sinton's 40th minute penalty corner strike levelled the scores 4-4.

Emma Wooton fired Coldfield back ahead in the 44th minute before Clifton's late, great revival spurred by Emily Atkinson's 64th minute equaliser and Leach's clincher.

On a day when two games were iced off, on fire Clifton edged back above Sutton in the table to head into the mid-season midwinter break in sixth spot.

Other Investec Women's Premier results Olton & West Warwicks 1 Reading 6, Slough 1 University of Birmingham 5, Bowdon Hightown v Surbiton, Leicester v Canterbury both postponed.
