Cardiff & UWIC stay level top of Men's Conference West despite an incredible comeback attempt by Team Bath Buccaneers in yesterday's nine-goal top of the table thriller at WIS.
Jimmy Devney's blues were cruising after Luke Hawker scored to put the home side 5-0 ahead on 55 minutes.
Buccs had other ideas and scored four goals in the final 12 minutes, sparked by George Farrant's 58th minute penalty corner conversion.
Top scorer Tim Davenport made it 5-2 in the 66th minute, German under 21 international Niklas Rieger narrowed the gap two minutes later and Buccs forced a fourth – credited as an own goal – in the 70th and final minute.
Mark Whatling (17) Sam Wiggins (22) Liam Brignull (30) Richard Howson (48) and Hawker scored as Cardiff cruised into a 5-0 lead.
Third placed University of Exeter are just three points off top two Cardiff and leaders Guildford heading into the mid-season midwinter break following Nick Cooper’s hat-trick in a 4-0 home win over Firebrands.
Cooper (10pc 55 61) and Andrew Ross (19pc) scored for the greens who restart the season next February at University of Birmingham, surprise 5-0 winners at Cheltenham yesterday.
Skipper Tom Fisher gave Whitchurch a flying start by scoring from a third minute penalty corner at Guildford, where Rhys Welsh ensured it was 2-2 at half time.
The leaders scored three times without reply to eventually win 5-2.
Alex Boxall scored twice as Fareham edged above visitors Havant by beating them 3-1 in the south coast derby.
