WOMENS HOCKEY Spartans on march in Conference West

investec womens hockey league logoResurgent Swansea City swept to their third Conference West win and their second in a row as the league season hit halfway on Super Sunday.

Natalie Blyth (9pc) Katrin Budd (13pc) and Alexandra Naughalty (68) scored for sixth placed Spartans as they won 3-1 at second placed Isca University yesterday.

Carla Dunnett (15) replied for Exeter, who host runaway leaders Buckingham next Saturday at University of Exeter Sports Park (1230).

Firebrands beat Staines 5-0 thanks to goals by Lily Owsley (13, 15) Charlotte Tuplin (43 pc) and skipper Georgie Field (50ps 57pc).

Field has now scored nine league goals, while Gloucester City's Kim Pullon (40, 45) took her tally to six for the season in a 2-2 draw at Trojans, where 10-goal Sally Gibson opened the scoring after 11 minutes for the Southampton side.

Taunton Vale lost 2-0 at home to Barnes Hounslow Ealing.

Jo Leigh opened the scoring with a 23rd minute strike as Clifton drew 1-1 with visitors Bowdon Hightown - from Altrincham - in the Premier Division.

Clifton are back in home action – against second placed Leicester – next Saturday (1300).
