MENS HOCKEY Conference West round nine review

mens hockey league logoTim Davenport took his goal haul to 12 in nine matches with a hat trick in Team Bath Buccaneers' comprehensive 5-0 home Conference West win over Fareham.

A 12th minute own goal put Buccs ahead before prolific scorer Davenport (15 28pc 62pc) struck.

Ben Carless made it 4-0 from a 46th minute penalty corner as Bath edged back up to third in a tightly packed top frame.

At the halfway stage of the season, Guildford top the table on goal difference from Jimmy Devney's Cardiff & UWIC who rallied from 1-0 down to beat title rivals University of Exeter 2-1 at WIS.

Robin Lovegrove (54 pc) and match winner Mark Whatling (57) scored for the home side, who trailed 1-0 to Edwards Matts' 23rd minute opener.

Whitchurch's resurgence continued with a 1-0 win at Havant, where Rhys Welsh scored the 28th minute penalty corner winner for the Cardiff side, now just a point behind sixth placed University of Birmingham following the students' 3-1 home defeat by Guildford.

Cheltenham moved up to fifth, above UoB, with a 4-2 home win over Firebrands, who led 2-0.

Ben Trembath (5) and Henry Williams (25) fired Firebrands in front but eight goal top scorer Alex Hay (32) and Will Pearce (35pc) levelled by half time.

Tim Morris (44) and James Astley (54) put the all blacks ahead.
