WOMENS HOCKEY Clifton visit Sevenoaks in quarter finals

investec hockey league logoBristol club Clifton will visit Sevenoaks in the Investec Women's Cup quarter finals on February 17 next year.

Clifton won 4-2 win at Women's Premier rivals University of Birmingham while Conference East leaders Sevenoaks knocked out another Bristol side, West Conference outfit Firebrands 2-0.

Liz Sinton, Abi Porter, Els Mansell and Emily Kirkham were on target for Clifton, who lost 5-1 at Reading in the Premier Division 24 hours earlier.

Jo Leigh scored Clifton's 57th minute consolation at Reading with the home side 5-0 ahead.

• Taryn Beuthin scored a hat-trick as Isca University won 6-0 at Barnes Hounslow Ealing to stay second in Investec Women's Conference West ahead of Sunday's home game against in-form Swansea City, 6-2 winners against Firebrands.

Isca rocked BHE by scoring five goals in a 16-minute first half spell, top and tailed by skipper Claire Thomas' 15th and 31st minute strikes.

Thomas sparked the goal blitz by diving in to deflect the ball over the Barnes keeper with an audacious reverse stick flick.

Player of the match Beuthin scored twice in three minutes (20, 23) before Kate Drysdale smashed in a 27th minute penalty corner strike.

Isca keeper Polly Salter kept Barnes at bay before Beuthin completed her trick with a 68th minute goal on a speedy counter attack.

Spartans goals against Brands were shared between Bridget Radice (4) Katrin Budd (21pc, 56) Abi Welsford (23, 42pc) and Carys Hopkins (36). Linda Webb (3) and skipper Georgie Field (25pc) replied.

Kim Pullon scored a fifth minute winner as Gloucester City beat Stourport 1-0 while Taunton Vale lost 3-1 at Staines, where Victoria Knight (65pc) gained some late consolation for the Somerset side.

Unbeaten leaders Buckingham beat Trojans 2-1 to make it eight wins from eight.
