European success for Somerset aces Sloman and Plumb

Euro Golf winners 300Somerset amateur golf aces Tom Sloman and Tom Plumb were to the fore as England pulled off a fantastic double with a consecutive clean sweep at the European Nations Cup in Sotogrande, Spain.

Yeovil’s Plumb, Taunton’s Sloman, Yorkshire’s Bailey Gill and Northamptonshire’s Ben Jones successfully defended the men’s trophy.

CHANNEL LEAGUE Champions Gloucestershire off to flyer

Jasper v Gloucester 2019 12018 Channel League amateur golf champions Gloucestershire got their 2019 title defence off to a winning start by beating last summer’s runners-up Cornwall 9-6 at West Cornwall.

Gloucestershire pipped Cornwall to the title last year with an unbeaten record of four games won, two halved in the season-long men's regional matchplay competition.

AMATEUR GOLF Cornwall's Toy wins in New South Wales

England Golf's Emily Toy has come up trumps on her first trip Down Under – winning the women’s New South Wales 36-hole championship in Australia.

The Cornwall women's amateur ace finished four-under 141 following rounds of 71 and 70 at Mona Vale Golf Club, finishing a shot clear of her closest rivals.

AMATEUR GOLF Leigh joins England Boys elite squad

England Golf logo Cornwall's George Leigh is one of four teenagers celebrating an outstanding 2018 season by winning a place in the England Golf national boys’ squad.

The 16-year-old Trevose Golf Club ace joins eight established members of the under 18 squad, including Carris Trophy winner Barclay Brown and Boys’ Amateur Champion Conor Gough.

WOMENS GOLF Gloucestershire off to storming start

England Golf logoSouth West champions Gloucestershire made a storming start to the week-long England Golf women’s county finals by beating 2017 champions Yorkshire 7½-1½ at Royal North Devon Golf Club yesterday.

Today Gloucestershire – who have won the regional England Golf championship eight times in a row – face fellow big opening day winners Surrey, who beat Buckinghamshire 6½- 2½ after Staffordshire edged past Norfolk 5-4.
