Devon remain on course to claim the men’s regional amateur 2012 Channel League Golf championship despite away wins for their title rivals yesterday.
Second placed Somerset pipped Glamorgan 8-7 at Southerdown GC while Cornwall soared to third spot with a 9-6 win over Gloucestershire at Henbury GC.
In their final league game of the season, Phil White’s Somerset rallied from 3-2 down following the morning foursomes to win on the last green in the final singles game.
Like table-topping Devon, Somerset have won four of their six matches but trail the champions elect on game points gained.
Cornwall – captained by Steve Rickard - have now won three of their five league matches.
The Duchy trail Devon by 14 game points ahead of their final league match of the season, at home to Glamorgan at Newquay GC on Sunday October 21.
At Henbury, Cornwall led 3-2 following the morning foursomes and despite losing the opening two singles games then won the next six in a row to secure the win.
Gloucestershire – captained by Mike Darby – host Gwent in their final league match on October 7 at the Kendleshire GC.
