LEAGUE ONE Plymouth Argyle 1 Reading 4

Reading ended resurgent Plymouth’s three match League One winning run 4-1 at seasonably cold Home Park.

Skipper Lewis Wing scored twice in five first half minutes as the Royals rushed into a 3-0 lead.

Wing opened the scoring from a 13th minute penalty after Joe Ralls was controversially red carded for a foul on Reading central defender Derrick Williams as Argyle failed to clear a corner.

Five minutes later Wing wrestled the ball off Bali Mumba on edge of box, took a stride forward and hammered the ball in past diving Conor Hazard to make it 2-0.

Jack Marriott then won a 20th minute header to tee up Kamari Doyle who first timed home from 15 yards past Hazard.

Reading's Charlie Savage volleyed just over in the 38th minute from 20 yards after latching on to Joe Edwards’ headed clearance.

Matty Sorinola flashed a 44th minute long range effort just past the post as Argyle went in search of a goal.

Mumba headed just wide at far post from an Ayman Benarous cross in first half stoppage time.

It was a signal of intent and sign ahead of a much-imporved second half performance from the greens, acknowledged by their supporters on four sides of the ground.

Substitute Kevin Ehibhatiomhan was denied by Hazard as the striker ran through on goal on 66 minutes but then the tide turned in Argyle's favour.

Sub Xavier Amaechi scored with a thumping 20 yard strike, into the top corner, on the counter on 68 minutes after being teed up by Malachi Boateng.

Argyle top scorer Lorent Tolaj’s tame 73rd minute penalty was saved by Joel Periera after a foul on Mumba by sub Kelvin Abrefa, for which the Reading player inexplicably escaped without a booking.

With Argyle still pressing, Marriott – who appeared to be offside - latched on to a Wing through ball to complete the rout with a clinical half volley on 86 minutes.
