Seven counties head into today’s final round of three-day National Counties Championship matches with a chance of qualifying for next month’s final at Tring Park (September 5-8).All four of the Western Division One sides in action are in contention to top the division with 15 points separating Oxfordshire – who went top by beating defending champions Berkshire this week – from fourth place Dorset.

This proved a fixture too far for Millbrook after a hectic week as impressive Tavistock ran out comfortable Western Prem winners at Jenkins Park.Josh Grant’s 33rd minute goal ended the home side’s resistance and although they enjoyed a period of pressure in the early part of the second half, they were made to pay for failing to find an equaliser.

Berkshire’s 36-match unbeaten record - which stretches back to August 2014 - is under threat after Oxfordshire dismissed them for 140 and then turned a first innings lead of 154 into 419 by the close thanks to a composed century from Ollie Ebsworth-Burland on his home club ground at Thame.Ebsworth-Burland also made a second innings century on his only previous appearance for Oxfordshire – also at Thame – two years ago and, having made 81 in the first innings of this match he again prospered against a Berkshire side hoping to win the Championship for a record fifth consecutive time.
