Cam Bidgood’s 90th minute strike at Bodieve secured St Austell’s first league win of the season at the fourth attempt.
Bidgood found space on the right and curled a superb shot from 20 yards past Bridgers keeper Rob Rosevear into the net.
The goal sparked wild celebrations from the visitors’ dugout and from Lillywhites supporters, who cheered another impressive display from their youthful team.
St Austell, beaten 6-1 at home by Mousehole on Saturday, made a strong start and deservedly opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Kieran Powell steered his header over Rosevear into the net from a free kick on the left.
To their credit, Wadebridge recovered quickly and equalised five minutes later when Jacob Smale’s excellent strike from 25 yards gave Lillywhites keeper Jason Chapman no chance.
The remainder of the half was evenly fought with both teams denied by the woodwork.
Wadebridge then started to up the pressure in the opening 15 minutes of the second half and created several half chances.
St Austell survived that period and were working hard to hold on to a point when the chance came to grab all three.
Bidgood, who scored twice in the 4-4 draw at Saltash last week, didn’t hesitate. He smashed in a goal which deserved to be a winner.
