Penryn RFC stages the first regional rugby sevens of the summer today.
As of yesterday there were 13 teams – and two "definitely maybes" - taking the field of play in the popular Penryn 7s Easter egg-chasing tournament at Kernick Road, which starts at 1130.
The annual Cornish gathering – now in its 28th year - is "unashamedly a fun event" says organiser Dermot Shier "and instigated all those years ago to cater for all the touring rugby teams that used to travel to Cornwall at Easter.
"Sadly that tradition has largely died out but the Penryn 7s lives on!"
Cornwall's Capio Eggs – skippered by Redruth prop forward Darren Jacques – claimed their first sevens tournament win at last year's event, beating Kernow Kingers in the cup final.
Redruth Colts beat Penryn Saracens 20-17 in the plate.
A number of summer sevens tournaments – many combined with netball competitions - are already fixtured to take place over the coming months.
The ones we know about are listed in the fixtures section. We are also planning to include South West England and South Wales based sevens sides in one of our popular SWSN twitter guides so if you play sevens get in touch via twitter @swsportsnews using the #swrugby7s tag!
