Tim Davenport’s double fired Team Bath Buccaneers to the top of Conference West while Cardiff & UWIC joined them on nine points following their derby win over Whitchurch.
Last season's Conference champions Buccs beat Bristol’s Firebrands 4-2 in the Avon derby at Bath after trailing twice, to goals from Ben Trembath (15) and Rollo Lewis (28).
Ben Carless (32pc) and Davenport (33) restored parity by half time. Josh Loughrey edged the home side ahead on 42 minutes and Davenport’s second a minute from time sealed Buccs' third win in a row.
The first Welsh derby of the season – el taffico - went the way of the last with Mark Whatling’s 58th minute penalty corner strike enough to seal another 1-0 victory for Jimmy Devney’s Cardiff & UWIC side over Whitchurch at WIS.
Josh Godfrey (11, 28) scored both first half goals for the University of Exeter as they drew 2-2 with unbeaten Cheltenham.
The visitors claimed a point and maintained their four-match unbeaten start with a 69th minute penalty corner leveller from Peter Duffy after Alex Hay had reduced the deficit on 56 minutes.
Next Saturday fourth placed Exeter host pace setters Buccs in the Conference West match of the day (University Sports Park, 1230).
