AMATEUR GOLF South West Week update

Defending South West men's amateur golf team champions Somerset opened their week-long title defence against Ian Veale's Cornwall at Cumberwell Park Golf Club, Bradford-on-Avon with an 8 ¼-5 ¾ win. Justin Lane's Somerset side swept all before them at Weston-super-Mare last summer to win both matchplay and strokeplay team titles, in doing so qualifying for the England County Finals as the South West champions.
Hosts Wiltshire - skippered by Cumberwell Park golf manager Ali James - also got their week off to a winning start, pipping Devon by a point.
Gloucestershire were also opening day winners, beating Tom Leech's Dorset by a point.
The week-long, free to see regional amateur championships run until the last round of matches on Friday.
