Lewis, 21, arrives ahead of Crewe at Home Park tomorrow and as George Cooper is ruled out of Ryan Lowe’s League One Pilgrims squad by a knee injury.
The new arrival has been on Lowe and assistant Steve Schumacher’s radar since a behind closed doors friendly win against Liverpool when the pair were the management team at Bury.
Lowe revealed: “We saw Adam in that game and we feel he is the right fit now we have lost George for a while. We have still got Conor (Grant) who can do a fantastic job out there and Byron (Moore) but we felt we wanted someone who can help us defensively and in attack and Adam certainly brings that.
“The fans will see a little aggressive terrier - who will get stuck in around the place. He can get up and down and loves a tackle. He presses very well and has got quality in terms of George Cooper-type quality.
“He predominantly plays wing back but he can also fill that holding midfield role. He can spray a ball around. He’s got a pass on him, great range. He could possibly play in the eight position as well. Hence why we brought him in because he can play in that many positions. He’s a fantastic footballer.
"You don’t sign a long term contract at Liverpool if you’re not any good.”
