TORQUAY UNITED midfielder Richards joins Macclesfield

Torquay United Football Club crestTorquay United midfielder Courtney Richards has joined National League rivals Macclesfield Town.

The Jamaican 23-year-old made 29 appearances for Kevin Nicholson's Gulls last season, playing in United's opening 2-0 league defeat at Moss Rose and the 1-1 Plainmoor draw with the Silkmen.

Brighton & Hove Albion youth product Richards - who was offered a new deal at new-look Torquay - has signed for a year at Macclesfield.

Richards will team up with experienced former Forest Green Rovers right back Jared Hodgkiss, impressive on his loan spell at Torquay from Kidderminster last term.

Hodgkiss joined Macclesfield on a two-year deal on June 9.

Gulls boss Kevin Nicholson signed highly rated 22-year-old right back Ryan Higgins from Southport following their relegation to National League North.

Nicholson anticipated wholesale changes again this summer, and Richards could move on.
