In a predominantly Devon-based South West Peninsula Premier East division the only two Cornish clubs are showing Eastern promise.

Macca Brown's unbeaten Millbrook top the table with six wins from eight starts. The Magpies have made a flying start... and their East Cornwall rivals are not far behind.

Lewis Young smashed an 84th minute winner - teed up by teenage sub Owen Raven - as Dean Cardew's Torpoint Athletic claimed their sixth success with a 1-0 win over the Tamar border at Darren Stewart's Ivybridge Town.

The game could have easily swung either way as 'point keeper Jason Peters made a spectacular full stretch second half save to keep out Sam Ryan's goal-bound free kick and just before half time Athletic defender Paul Heveran cleared an Ivybridge shot off the line not long after Ivies striker Sam Stevens' effort came back off the post.

Torpoint had their own golden opportunities with left winger Gary Hird crashing a first half piledriver off the bar.

Sandwiched between pacesetters Millbrook and fourth placed Torpoint are Jason Couch's Brixham AFC, who ended third placed Bovey Tracey's unbeaten start 2-1 at Wall Park in front of 190 on Tuesday thanks to a Liam Moseley double.

The only other unbeaten side in the division are fifth placed Ifracombe Town. Clem Bennellick's Bluebirds have won five of their six opening games.

Today Ivybridge and Torpoint both host Western League opposition in the FA Vase.

Andy Gurney's Western Premier Roman Glass St George visit Erme Valley while Torpoint host First Division Portishead Town, 4-1 home winners over Bishop Sutton AFC last time out.

Will Small's Bovey visit Western League Radstock in the Vase while Axminster Town face a tough test at Peninsula Premier West high flyers Helston Athletic.

Millbrook's next league action is away to Paul Froude's Newton Abbot Spurs next Tuesday while Brixham could got top with a win at Torridgeside tomorrow.

Spurs face their own Vase away test today, at Western League First Division Wells City.
