New Argyle boss Muslic frustrated following QPR defeat

Miron Muslic creditPlymouthArgyleNew Plymouth Argyle boss Miron Muslic could not hide his disappointment as the greens succumbed to a 1-0 home defeat by QPR.

Argyle are now five points adrift from safety in the Championship basement with 19 league games remaining, starting at home to third placed Burnley on Wednesday (2000ko).

Muslic has been in post a week.

Post-match he admitted: “I am very disappointed. Because just we simply lacked the desire to win duels first. That’s a basic.

“We have had some injury problems over the last couple of days.

“We also had to adapt the system because we cannot play with a back three if you only have two centre backs.

“But I don’t think this was the problem. We just lacked the physicality. The difference between our physicality and the physicality of QPR was immense in everything, defensively, offensively, in the set plays, at the throw-ins and there we struggled. The most important thing today was to win the duels because it’s not always about the physicality and the height.

“I will mention one player, Julio Pleguezuelo, Pleggy. He tried to compete in every single duel, every single duel against Frey, a very big and strong target player. We lacked that desire in other positions, just to win duels.

“And if you can’t win duels then you don’t have a chance.

“We were far away from deserving even a point. That’s the reality. But first of all we have to admit that was not enough today, we have to admit we are far away from it. Then when you admit that you can start to find solutions.

“This is a very physical league. We have to learn to be more physical.

“It was a very frustrating performance.

“We are now on the ground but that is also the perfect opportunity to get up and try again. We will find solutions.

“We don’t like to lose but the way we lost today is not good so we have to change this ASAP.

“A lot of things have been negative today. I don’t like excuses but the reality is tough. we are struggling defensively, we are struggling offensively – and we had four offensive players on the pitch but we didn’t have those moments.

“After a home game if our goalkeeper is the best player on the pitch there is something wrong.”

The greens are now without a league win in 13 matches, since a 1-0 home success over third from bottom Portsmouth, 2-1 home winners over Middlesbrough yesterday.
