"It was a freak injury but it happens in football and you've just got to get over it quickly. It gave me a chance to get some freshness back in the legs and I'm ready to go," says the 26-year-old former Republic of Ireland U21 ace.

“I'd say I'm 100 per cent, it’s just getting game time now, because you don't really get match fitness without playing first team games."

The former Ross County midfielder played the second half of last week's 1-0 home defeat to Wycombe and also came through over an hour of reserve team action on Tuesday unscathed, meaning he is in contention to start as the Pilgrims look to continue their promotion push.

"We enjoy playing away and I'm looking forward to Saturday. Now January is over we've got a settled squad and it’s time to knuckle down and push ourselves back to the top of the table."

The 26-year-old Irishman has enjoyed a scoring start to his Argyle career, with several spectacular long range strikes making him a firm fan’s favourite, and is keen to stay at Home Park for the foreseeable future.

Carey admits: "It's probably been one of the most enjoyable seasons of my career until the (knee) injury and I see my long term future here. I'm not worried about my contract, the staff aren't worried about my contract. I'm enjoying myself here and long may that continue.  Hopefully we can get promoted and we've played well against League 1 teams so there’s no reason we can't kick-on again."
