COUNTIES CRICKET Quarter-final deciders today

The two remaining places in this season’s National Counties Trophy quarter-finals and the four teams who will have home advantage in them will be decided today (from 1100). 

The quarter-final places still up for grabs are in Group Three, where Cheshire and Shropshire meet in a straight shoot-out at Toft to decide who will join Suffolk in the last eight, and Group Two where either Cornwall or Berkshire will progress with Hertfordshire.

Sussex seamer Brad Currie is in line to make his first appearance of the season for Dorset in today’s National Counties Trophy Group Four match against Wales NC at Panteg (1100). 

Currie is a product of Dorset’s youth system who was signed by Sussex on an initial short-term contract midway through last season.

NCCA-Logo MasterNational Counties Trophy holders Berkshire return to Slough for the first time in 21 years with Cornwall the visitors to Upton Court Road, which will also be a home Trophy venue for Buckinghamshire in two weeks’ time. 

Berkshire are without Tom Scriven, who is on LV=County Championship duty with Leicestershire but batter Savin Perera and pace bowler Mungo Russell return from injury and Josh Lincoln is also included in a 13-man squad.

COUNTIES CRICKET Devon aiming to bounce back

Berkshire who have lost their last three matches in white ball cricket, head to Exeter to face Devon who also need to bounce back from Monday’s Trophy defeat by Cornwall at Truro. 

Berkshire are boosted by the availability of Leicestershire all-rounder Tom Scriven who takes the place of Josh Lincoln in the only change to their 12-man squad.

NATIONAL COUNTIES TROPHY team news

Nils Priestley’s eye-catching performances for Staffordshire this season have been noticed by Worcestershire. 

All-rounder Priestley was released by Derbyshire at the end of last season and in addition to signing for Staffordshire he put himself in the shop window for new employers by attending the second National Counties Player ID Day at Loughborough in March which was attended by coaches and scouts from a number of first-class counties.

NATIONAL COUNTIES T20 Trophy finals day preview

The two most successful sides in the history of National – formerly Minor – Counties cricket will go head-to-head in the first semi-final at this year’s Finals Day at Tring Park today (1000). 

Until last August Staffordshire were the most successful side with 15 titles across all formats but Berkshire drew level when they won the National Counties Trophy at Wormsley then overtook them when they collected their 16th piece of silverware by regaining the National Counties Championship title by virtue of their first innings lead against Lincolnshire in a rain-ravaged final.
