CORNWALL CRICKET Werrington and Redruth closing in

Cornwall Cricket crestThe entire Jolly’s Drinks Cornwall Cricket League programme was again washed out on Monday to complete a miserable, wet blank holiday weekend for Cornish club cricketers.

It was the second occasion in three days that rain stopped all play. The last time a whole programme was washed out - before Saturday - was July 11, 2009.

With seven wins Werrington CC take an 11-point Premier lead over St Just CC into the final two rounds of matches.

Werrington – skippered by Ben Smeeth - have collected 208 points from their 16 fixtures, of which four have been cancelled and three abandoned.

Saturday’s top of the table clash at Cape Cornwall against St Just was washed out along with yesterday’s home game against sixth placed Truro CC.

Unbeaten runaway leaders Redruth CC are all but assured of the County One crown after winning 13 of their 20 matches.

Nigel Hambly's Reds – on 301 - require nine points from their final two fixtures to ensure they stay top.

Redruth's closest rivals are second placed Hayle – with 10 wins – on 270 points.
