Plymouth-born former Yeovil Town and Truro City boss Thompson, 54, began his playing career at Bristol City and played for a whole string of clubs, notably Saltash United, Slough Town, Wycombe Wanderers, Woking and the Glovers from 1998 at the start of an 11-year association.

Cinderford Town FC, Hereford FC, Swindon Supermarine FC, Truro City FC and Bath City FC have all been drawn at home in the FA Cup third qualifying round on Saturday September 30.
Paul Michael's Cinderford will host Hampton & Richmond Borough, while Dave Webb's Supermarine have been drawn at home to Southern League West rivals Paulton Rovers managed by John Rendell.

The 2017-18 West Clubs Women’s Hockey League season starts today and once again Clifton Robinsons 2s will be the team to beat.
The Bristol side – whose first team are a national league premier fixture – only lost twice last season and topped the West Clubs League by four points from Team Bath Buccaneers.

Gary Owers has been appointed head coach at National League basement side Torquay United.
Martin Kuhl, 52, has been appointed assistant head coach to Owers at Plainmoor.
