NETBALL Dragons meet Bath in Superleague showdown

celtic dragons logoDerby rivals Celtic Dragons and Team Bath meet in today's Superleague final at the University of Worcester Arena (1900).

Both sides won their home semi-finals, Team Bath triumphing 53-43 against 2012 champions Manchester Thunder on Sunday while Cardiff-based Dragons stormed past Surrey Storm 65-52 on Monday.

Whatever the Worcester outcome, Team Bath and Celtic Dragons have top and tailed the Superleague season.

As if fate would have it, the two teams met in February's opening game of the season, when Team Bath edged it 57-50 at University of Bath.

Team Bath won the rematch in 60-48 in April before Dragons inflicted Bath's only home defeat, 66-58, a week later.

First-time finalists Dragons – who boast a host of Welsh international players – are experiencing their most successful season while internationally star-studded Superleague super team Bath are bidding to claim their fifth title in eight seasons.

Team Bath have already won four of the seven Superleague campaigns with victories in 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010 – a feat that earned them a place in this year's Guinness World Records book. They go into the final having won 11 of their 13 Superleague games this season.

Regardless of today's result, Celtic Dragons have put Welsh netball on the national sporting map.
