Salisbury City staged a sensational extra time comeback to win through to the FA Cup third round for the first time following last night’s dramatic 3-2 replay win at Grimsby Town.
Darrell Clarke’s Conference South side will now visit League One high flyers Sheffield United on Saturday January 7 (1500).
Match winner Stuart Anderson converted an extra time penalty to secure Salisbury’s memorable victory after opening scorer Dan Fitchett was fouled in the 113th minute of a marathon cup tie at Blundell Park.
Fitchett put Salisbury ahead in the 46th minute before Rob Duffy scored a stoppage time leveller and then in the second minute of extra time to put the Mariners 2-1 ahead.
City’s Brian Dutton headed a 100th minute leveller to make it 2-2.
League One Yeovil Town crashed out of the competition, beaten 2-0 at home by Conference side Fleetwood, who now host Ian Holloway’s Blackpool in round three.
League Two Bristol Rovers’ glamorous home tie against Premier League giants Aston Villa on Saturday January 7 will kick off at 1730 and is being televised by ESPN.
Mark Yates' in-form Cheltenham Town visit Tottenham Hotspur in another of the round's stand-out ties (1500).
Derek McInnes’ Championship outfit Bristol City visit League Two leaders Crawley Town (1500).
Incidentally Salisbury City return to Conference South action at home to Maidenhead United on Saturday (Raymond McEnhill Stadium, 1500).
