Bath rugby logoWelsh international fly-half Rhys Priestland is teaming up with Bath Rugby next season on a two-year contract.

The freescoring 27-year-old joins Bath from Scarlets for whom he has already made 147 appearances, scoring 1059 points.

Carmarthen-born former Llanelli no 10 Priestland burst onto the international scene in the 2011 Rugby World Cup, when he steered Wales to their first semi-final since 1987. He has won 32 caps scoring 60 points.

Priestland said: “My entire rugby career has been spent in Wales and, although I’ve enjoyed that time enormously, I need a new challenge.

“I’ve been really impressed watching Bath develop over the past couple of years into one of the most exciting teams in the country. It’s a world-class organisation in every sense, including the players, coaching staff and facilities.”

Bath Rugby head coach Mike Ford said: “Rhys is a fantastic player with an impressive pedigree: his record with Scarlets and Wales speaks for itself. He’s got a wide range of talents that suit our game plan and he’ll make a great addition to our squad. He’s still quite a young guy, but one with a lot of experience that will be really valuable, especially in the development of our younger players.”

Championship basement side Plymouth Albion RFC have signed 19-year-old Bristol Rugby and England U20 prop Ellis Genge on loan.

Albion - yet to win in the opening 10 Championship rounds - host third from bottom Moseley RFC on Saturday (1500).

Bath United were beaten 37-26 in last night's A League semi final away to Worcester Cavaliers.
