U20s RUGBY Championship quarter-final line-up

Devon will benefit from home advantage against Kent in the National U20s Championship quarter finals on Sunday April 7 after topping pool three.

The green and whites followed up November's opening 39-12 win away to Somerset and December's 18-7 home success over Dorset & Wilts with a turnaround 32-24 triumph over valiant cross-Tamar opponents Cornwall under the glare of the winter sun at Plymouth Albion RFC.

It was a pulsating, captivating encounter from the third minute that flanker Chris Farrell crashed over the try line until the last, when Newton Abbot team-mate Rob Avery-Wright put the result beyond doubt with a fine drop goal into the sunset.

In between Oli Massey-Birch, Tom Burt and replacement hooker Guiseppe Varano had tries converted by Avery-Wright, who also added a penalty as the delicately balanced derby swung back towards the shire county.

Cornwall countered from their early setback with tries from Matt Bolwell, impressive centre Tom Hendrickson and skipper Neil Broadbank to surge 24-12 ahead aided by three successful conversions and a penalty from scrum half Max Bodilly.

Up at Weston-super-Mare, Dorset & Wilts' six-try 36-18 win over Somerset was enough to seal second place and a quarter final trip to Maidenhead RFC to face pool four winners Berkshire.

In the other quarter finals on April 7 runaway pool two winners Gloucestershire will host pool one runners-up Cheshire at Cinderford RFC.

Pool one table toppers Lancashire meet North Midlands at Liverpool St Helens RFC.
