WOMENS HOCKEY Bristol boasts three WHL teams

Els bells another goal for Clifton's Dutch ace MansellBristol can now boast three Investec Women’s Hockey League teams.

Clifton Ladies Hockey Club – the first regional side to embrace the best in the West tag, we know we gave it to them – bid to continue to build on back-to-back top four Premier finishes.

Aileen Davis’ Bristol blues start the season at home to Bowdon Hightown with high hopes after consistently proving to be one of the top teams to watch in the top flight of women’s national league hockey.

Bristol-based Firebrands make an early start their Women’s Conference West campaign at home to Stourport while newly promoted University of Bristol play their first national league match at Gloucester City.

Two of the pre-season title favourites meet on the opening day as Isca University host Welsh wonders Swansea City Spartans at the University of Exeter Sports Park.

If either side triumphs in Exeter it could well act as a springboard for a long and successful season, especially as champions Slough switched from West to East in summer. There will be a new team topping the WCW come the end of term.

Keep an eye on Southampton side Trojans, especially if they make a flying start at Oxford Hawks.
