Guildford top the Men’s Conference West with the only 100 per cent record after just two rounds – surely a sign of the competition to come over the next 16 matches.
Rupert Shipperley scored Whitchurch’s 24th minute penalty stroke as they lost 4-1 to the pacesetters on another high scoring matchday.
Team Bath Buccaneers and University of Exeter bounced back from opening day defeats to score four.
Buccs beat visitors Cardiff & UWIC 4-1 with goals by George Farrant (15pc) Wales’ Ben Carless (54pc) Ireland’s Stuart Loughrey (63pc) and German Under 21 international Nik Rieger (70) a summer arrival from Uhlenhorst. Liam Brignull replied from a 68th minute penalty corner.
William Collins (3) got Exeter off to a flying start in a 4-0 win at promoted Firebrands, where Tom Samuel (38pc) Michael Franklin (44) and Josh Godfrey (59) also scored as the students claimed their first win of the term.
Simon Padley (29) opened the scoring in Cheltenham’s 1-1 draw at University of Birmingham while Fareham won the south coast derby 6-2 at Havant.
Next Saturday unbeaten Cheltenham bid to end Guildford's winning start at Balcarras (1230).
