Dorset built on a morning 5-3 singles lead to coast home by a five-game margin, 9.5-4.5 and shoot to the top of the week-long matchplay leaderboard.
Ian Veale's Cornwall trailed 5-3 following the morning singles against cross-Tamar rivals Devon but rallied brilliantly after Rob MacGregor (Tehidy Park) beat Jay Scott (Tiverton) by one hole.
Cornwall didn't look back after that, winning all four afternoon foursomes to win their opening match 9-5.
As anticipated the closest match of the day was between defending champions Somerset and Gloucestershire, who led 5-3 following the morning singles.
Although Gloucestershire won two of the foursomes, Somerset also won one and halved another.
