TERRAFIC! Weymouth return to non-league top tier

Vanarama NL logoWeymouth are back in the top flight of non-League football following back to back promotions under boss Mark Molesley.

The Terras clinched their second promotion in a year thanks to a 3-0 penalty shoot-out win over Dartford following a tense, goalless draw in Dorset.

Weymouth had home advantage in both their promotion final and play-off semi-final, a thrilling 3-2 win over Dorking Wanderers, after finishing the regular season third in National League South following a brilliant end of season winning run.

Last year former Bournemouth, Exeter City and Weymouth midfielder Molesley, 39, led the Terras to the Southern League Premier South title.

Now the Terras - relegated from non-league's top flight in 2009 - and their supporters can look forward to playing Yeovil Town and south coast rivals Torquay United when the new National League season kicks off in October.

Wealdstone (70 pts) were automatically promoted as National League South champions while second placed Havant & Waterlooville (67) were upset 2-1 at home by Dartford in the semi-finals.

Weymouth finished the regular season level on 63 points with Jerry Gill's fourth placed Bath City, beaten 2-1 at home by Dorking in the play-off openers.

Historically 2020 is a special year for Weymouth FC, founded in 1890.
