POST MATCH REACTION Swindon Argyle Wellens Lowe

EFL logo cropSwindon Town boss Richie Wellens praised Ryan Lowe’s Plymouth Argyle after ending the greens’ three-match winning streak 2-1 to stay top of League Two.

Wellens admitted: “Along with Crewe, they are the best team we have played. We played them earlier in the season and their movement causes teams a lot of problems.”

Eoin Doyle claimed his 23rd goal since joining the Robins from Bradford City on loan at the start of the season to seal Swindon’s win on 77 minutes after they clawed back from 1-0 down.

Dom Telford’s 22nd minute header was cancelled out by Diallang Jaiyesimi’s cracking long range strike off the post.

Wellens said “For me, they are probably up there with us and a couple of other teams as the best transition teams when they win the ball back.

“They are a threat and the people they put in certain positions and they have got some good footballers.

“I enjoyed the game at times because we caused them massive problems but for little five minute spells we were on the ropes because they are a good team.

“I like how Ryan Lowe plays.

“There were two good teams out there and two managers who know exactly what they want their team to do and two sets of players who put everything in.

“The atmosphere was good as well. That helps with the energy levels, that drives you on that little 10 per cent in the last 15 minutes.

“We could have been three or four up, they could have scored two or three. Sarcevic is a good player, he can dribble with the ball and he had chances.

“I enjoyed it in parts but they make it unenjoyable because they are a good team.

“If you watched that, you wouldn’t think that is League Two game."

Argyle boss Lowe said “It’s disappointing because in the first half we were very good and we got a good goal.

“We could have had the game wrapped up by half time, we all know that.

“You can’t leave the best striker in the league alone in the box.

“Well he wasn’t alone, it was great movement that he does to get that half chance.

“Overall I am pleased with the way we played, pleased with the way we keep creating chances.

“I need someone to take those chances and put the ball in the back of the net.

“Obviously we are disappointed with the result because I felt at one stage there was only one team that was going to win it.

“You have got to be on your mettle for 96 minutes.

“I think today we took our eye off Eoin Doyle for probably a split second and his movement cause them to get the goal and for us to lose the game 2-1.

“But, look, I am proud of the boys it’s only two losses in eight. We have just got to pick ourselves up and go again at Scunthorpe on Saturday.”
