SW FOOTBALL MIDWEEK ROUND-UP

There were nail-biting non-League and county cup quarter final ties across the region last night whether you were at Brislington, Buckland, Clevedon or Cullompton.

Danny Coombes scored the Somerset Premier Cup extra time winner as Western League Premier Division Brislington edged past plucky First Division visitors Portishead Town 2-1.

Liam Peart was fox in the box for Briz's first goal.

Clevedon Town knocked out Yeovil Town while the two remaining last eight dates are at Frome and Larkhall tonight.

It all came down to penalties at Buckland Athletic, where the home side pipped South West Peninsula League rivals Launceston in the Throgmorton Cup, and Cullompton, where Rangers beat Exeter City in the Devon St Luke’s Cup.

Meanwhile in the Western League Premier Division, Wells City won 4-0 at Bishop Sutton and Bristol Manor Farm beat Barnstaple Town 2-0.

Melksham moved within three points of First Division leaders Cadbury Heath following a 2-0 win at seventh placed Keynsham while mid-table rivals Almondsbury UWE and Hengrove drew 1-1.

In the South West Peninsula League Saltash United are back up to sixth – ahead of East Cornwall rivals Liskeard Athletic on goal difference – following a 3-2 Kimberley win over basement side Royal Marines.

Bodmin Town can regain SWPL top spot with a home win over St Austell (Priory Park 1930).
