DEVON SIDES TOP WESTERN LEAGUE DIVISIONS

Eagled-eyed south west non-league football fans will have noticed that Chris Vinnicombe's Tiverton-based Elmore have made a winning start to the new Western League season.

The Eagles flying start continued last night as Elmore beat Wellington 4-1 in their derby meeting at Horsdon Park.

Victory means that player-manager Vinnciombe's unbeaten Elmore side top the First Division table by three points from second placed Melksham Town after winning four of their opening five games.

Elmore visit Oldland Abbotonians on Saturday while Melksham are in FA Cup preliminary round action at Southern League Yate Town.

It's been a dream week for Devon in the Western League, as Willand Rovers' 2-1 derby win over Ilfracombe Town at Silver Street on Tuesday night hoist Clive Jones' all whites three points clear at the Premier Division summit.

Willand host Corsham in a top versus bottom league fixture on Saturday (Silver Street, 1500).
