Torquay United chairman Simon Baker has confirmed the board’s decision to appoint a new first team manager as soon as, practically, possible.
Baker told southwestsportsnews this morning: “As a board we really feel that we must make an appointment by Monday.
“We need someone in position by then so as they can get their feet under the table and start work as soon as possible.”
The United board drew up a list of potential candidates yesterday and are already starting the interview process.
Baker added: “We need a new manager but he also needs to start working on the squad. We don’t want to lose players and we also need to address the goalkeeping position. We are keeper-less at the moment so we need a new number one there as well.”
Baker said the list of potential managerial candidates was “fluid”.
“I would say we are looking at between seven and eight names but that depends if all of those can make it to interview this week, one candidate is away at the moment.
“If they can’t come in for an interview this week they may miss out because we want to name our new manager next Monday.”
Former Torquay United boss Paul Buckle has become the new manager at the Gulls' League Two and south west rivals Bristol Rovers.
