Striker Owen Oseni scored twice as League One Plymouth Argyle fought back from 2-0 down at half time to knock a Championship Queens Park Rangers out of the EFL Cup.

Oseni, in the six yard box, turned-in substitute Caleb Watts’ incisive cross from the left on 79 minutes to complete a remarkable turnaround and secure Argyle’s first competitive win for new head coach Tom Cleverley, celebrating his 36^th birthday.

Summer signing Oseni had scored with a brilliant outside of the boot left foot finish to turn-in Ayman Benarous’ deep cross from the left from an acute angle and past Paul Nardi at the far post on 54 minutes.

Central defender Brendan Wiredu headed Argyle’s first goal in the 48^th minute as Victor Palsson headed Tegan Finn’s corner back across goal.

Daniel Bennie pounced to score from close range to fire a much-changed youthful QPR ahead in the 21^st minute.

Bennie was first to the ball as Argyle keeper Luca Ashby-Hammond saved Rumarn Burrell’s downward header from Elijah Dixon-Bonner’s cross from the left to the far post.

Rangers doubled their lead from a well-worked corner routine in the second minute of first half stoppage time.

Rayan Kolli leapt highest at the far post to head home Harvey Vale’s cross from the right.

Jamie Paterson’s 26^th minute penalty was saved by Nardi.

A young Argyle side had started the tie well with Joe Hatch first-timing a shot just over the angle at the near-post in the fourth minute from a Kornel Szucs cross from the right.

Despite dominating for long spells, Argyle found themselves in arrears at half time but can now look forward to a second round cup tie.
