With their big day in the Cornwall Senior Cup final on the horizon, Millbrook could probably have done without a long trip to Street on a miserable wet and windy day.
But Macca Brown’s side gave it their all on a muddy, cloying playing surface and came away with a hard-earned point.
Brown said: “It was one of those days where I could say if we had played until next Thursday neither team would have scored – and leave it at that!
“In all seriousness, that’s pretty much it. I think both teams lacked that bit of firepower on the day, I believe they were without their main man up front, and we were missing three regulars from our front line which meant we had to approach the game in a slightly different way and it probably did take away one of our biggest threats.
“The biggest positive is a clean sheet. We’ve lost games on the road that we shouldn’t have done this season, and Saturday could have been one of those days if we didn’t defend well.
“Don’t get me wrong, there were opportunities for Street to punish us but the two centre backs in particular threw their bodies in the way when they had to in order to preserve the clean sheet.
“The lads did well, played some good stuff especially in the first half, but we just lacked that conviction in the final third to take home all three points.
“We created some good openings, Foz (Jake Foster) had a couple in the first half and we looked like a problem for them at corners, and then in the second half a few moments fell to Woody (Jack Wood) but it was just one of those days.
“We were quite depleted and that could have made the difference, JJ (Josh Johnson) pulled out in the warm-up which left us with just one sub, and it was a sapping pitch after the heavy midweek rain, and the second half just got a bit messy because of that, the legs had gone a bit all around.
“They were similar, they had some good chances but were wasteful as well, so for me a draw is probably the fairest result of the season and we can’t have any complaints at all.”
There’s now just the little matter of facing neighbours Torpoint Athletic at The Mill on Good Friday (1100ko) before Millbrook can prepare for Easter Monday’s Senior Cup final against Western League rivals Helston Athletic at Blaise Park, St Blazey (1400ko).
