Ed Harrison’s 88th minute header clinched victory for 10-man Camelford who moved up to second in the table after a battle royale in the torrential rain at Pennygillam.
Harrison, who had missed a 20th minute penalty, appeared at the near post to glance in a corner to set off wild, wet and windy celebrations in the clubhouse corner.
It was just reward for a Camels side who had to dig deep after seeing key man Bobby Hopkinson shown a straight red card four minutes into the second half.
At that point the game was goalless and Launceston clearly fancied their chances of going on to win.
But it was Camelford who broke the deadlock seven minutes after the red card as Mark Gusterson was on hand to tap in after Harrison’s shot had squirmed out of the grasp of keeper Lewis Slade.
No blame could be levelled at Slade. In the awful conditions, the ball resembled a malteser left out in the sun.
Launceston stepped up the pressure but Camelford, with Josh McCabe superb in central defence, resisted everything they threw at them.
And in Cam Hutchison the Camels had an out ball. The number 7 defied the slippery conditions to lead the home defence a merry dance and it took a good save from Slade to prevent him making it 2-0 after 68 minutes.
Launceston continued to push forward and they finally found an equaliser 11 minutes from time with a superb finish from Ben Waters, who had been a thorn in Camelford’s side all night.
The last 10 minutes was played out like a cup tie with half chances at both ends but it seemed a thoroughly entertaining game was going to finish all square.
That was until Harrison popped up with the late winner.
