Brook trailed 1-0 to a 10th minute Josh Grant strike and two minutes later keeper Sam Borthwick broke his left wrist keeping out a fiercely struck Grant penalty.
Borthwick was whisked off to Derriford for what turned out to be an 11-hour stay as he had his wrist re-set and plastered after x-rays revealed a bad break.
Back at Tavistock, Jack Wood’s versatility came to the fore as the defender/midfielder donned the keeper’s jersey and Millbrook were forced to reorganise, with Ed Goodman coming off the bench.
Wood was a goalkeeper in his younger days – and you could tell, such was the air of calm about everything he went on to do.
And out of adversity came another admirable Millbrook performance which deserved more than the point it earned.
Jake Foster equalised in the 21st minute, heading in a Tom Payne free kick, and up to half-time the visitors had several opportunities to take the lead, with a Foster volley brilliantly cleared off the line by Iestyn Harris.
From the resulting corner, Ben Applegate crashed a 20 yard shot against the bar and soon afterwards sub Goodman should have done better from 10 yards.
Tavistock, missing a number of first team regulars, seemed to get themselves together during the break and came out on the offensive, with Grant seeing a 55th minute effort ruled out for offside from a clever free kick.
But the home side had to wait only two more minutes to restore their lead. Dan Jennings, dual registered with Bodmin, took on and beat several Millbrook players before playing the ball through to Liam Prynn, who sent the ball low past Wood into the net.
It was another hammer blow for Millbrook, but in typical fashion they refused to lie down, and within two minutes Foster had torn through the Tavistock defence to send his shot across the face of goal and agonisingly wide.
The visitors continued to pour forward and only a massive stroke of luck for the home side kept their lead intact as Calum Davenport, in hacking the ball off the line, smashed it against Rikki Shepherd. How the ball didn’t crash into the net is anybody’s guess, but it bounced over the bar.
Tavistock were struggling to create any chances of their own as Millbrook continued to probe and it was no surprise when the Magpies equalised.
Shepherd, who had had a quiet afternoon by his standards, cut in from the left side of the penalty area and unleashed a superb curling right foot shot which nestled into the far corner.
Millbrook clearly were not settling for a point though. Sam Morcom played Foster in after 84 minutes but he shot over and five minutes later his shot from Payne’s corner finished inches wide.
Shepherd then headed against the bar, although a linesman was flagging for offside, and as the game moved into time added on, the striker had one last chance, lifting his shot over Tavistock keeper Tom Watson but also just wide.
Only 11 days before this, Tavistock had comprehensively beaten Millbrook 4-2 at Jenkins Park. This was some response from Mackenzie Brown’s team.
