SWPL WEST Launceston AFC 1 Saltash United 5

lanson ashes KJMSaltash bounced back from their shock weekend defeat by Newquay with an emphatic victory over Launceston at Pennygillam.

The Ashes were on the front foot from the first minute and might have had several goals before Sam Hughes opened the scoring in the 29th minute from Reece Thomson’s pass.

Launceston goalkeeper Tom Watson produced heroics to keep the score to 1-0 until the 43rd minute when Hughes helped himself to his and Saltash’s second goal with a clever back-flicked header from Danny Lewis’s chip into the penalty area.

Before the home side had time to settle, the Ashes made it 3-0 within a minute as the excellent Thomson fired past Watson from the edge of the penalty area.

It was as good a first half performance as you are likely to see and a three-goal lead was the bare minimum it merited.

By comparison the second 45 minutes was short of incident and it took until the 72nd minute for Saltash to increase their lead as a mad scramble in the six yard box led to the ball deflecting in off a defender as Ryan Lucassi attempted to force it over the line.

Launceston gained some consolation for refusing to buckle when substitute Ollie Bowen fired a superb effort from 20 yards past Ryan Rickard with 11 minutes to go.

Any hopes of a miracle recovery from the Clarets were dashed three minutes later when player of the match Thomson lashed home a volley from 15 yards.
