Exeter City boss Paul Tisdale praised his resurgent side following a 2-1 comeback win at play-off chasing Plymouth Argyle.
Tisdale said: “I am delighted with the team and the way we played. The result at this stage of the season is everything.”
City recorded their second win in a row thanks to Eliot Richards’ third goal in four days as the on-loan Bristol Rovers striker converted Tom Nichols’ unselfish square pass from six yards for the 83rd minute winner.
Plymouth’s first half dominance was rewarded when top scorer Reuben Reid converted a 45th minute penalty after City skipper Danny Coles handballed Matt Parsons’ cross from the left. It was on-loan Yeovil striker Reid’s 20th goal of the season.
Impressive Nichols, 20, fired a warning shot at the start of the second half as his angled drive beat keeper Jake Cole and came back off the foot of the post.
City’s Exeter-born midfielder Liam Sercombe restored parity in the 69th minute with a 20-yard leveller, which looped up over Cole after being deflected on the way to goal.
City's win lifts them seven points clear of second from bottom Northampton and up to 16th with seven games remaining and completes a Devon derby double over their rivals following a 3-1 win at St James' Park.
Argyle remain ninth, three points off the play-off pace. Attendance 13,442.
