Plymouth boss John Sheridan praised his side for their steady improvement and back to back clean sheets.
Sheridan said: "I think we have played better than the previous two games and I never felt we were going to lose the game because we were solid.
"We should have won the game with the chances we have had, one off the bar, another off the line and at the end Matt Lecointe has hit the target.
"That's two clean sheets on the spin now, five points from three unbeaten games and something to build on.
"I would have preferred seven points and if we had won we would have jumped three places up the table but we have got ourselves out of the bottom two.
"Next week's game at Aldershot becomes a massive game for us now."
On-loan Ipswich Town striker Ronan Murray's first timer, from debutant Jason Banton's angled cross came back off the bar in the 33rd minute and Reuben Reid's goal bound header was cleared off the line by Daggers defender Femi Ilesanmi at the start of the second half as Argyle pressed.
Dagenham were limited to long range efforts although home keeper Jake Cole made a superb save to keep out Luke Howell's deflected rising drive in the 18th minute.
Daggers boss John Still praised keeper Chris Lewington for two important stops. Lewington denied on-loan Palace forward Banton, 20, with a close range stop and then home skipper Conor Hourihane either side of half time.
Still said: "The first save was important and a really good save by Chris. The second was more of a routine stop, which I would expect him to make.
"If you get a point away from home you are always going to be happy, so we are happy.
"I said to the players before the game I felt this would be one of our toughest away league games this season. They've got a new manager in, had a couple of decent results and brought a few players in.
"I know the lad Banton from Palace really well and Reuben Reid is always going to be an effective player on his day.
"Before anything else we have to battle and battle and we did, our goalkeeper had to make a save to keep us there."
