Gulls boss Martin Ling: “I have never been manager of a side that has come back from 3-0 down to win 4-3 and all I can say is that it shows the character in the dressing room. Unbelievable.”

United trailed 3-0 after Shots’ striker Craig Reid completed a quick fire 20 minute hat-trick in the 47th minute.

Reid opened the scoring after 28 minutes from close range and then doubled his tally from a 37th minute spot kick.

Billy Bodin grabbed a 48th minute lifeline for the Gulls before super subs Ryan Jarvis, on 69 minutes, and Ashley Yeoman, 84, hauled United back level. Howe then claimed his seventh goal of the season.

United left back Kevin Nicholson – 31 today - almost scored with an audacious wind assisted strike from just outside his own penalty area, flapped over by Aldershot keeper Jamie Young after it skipped up off the rain-soaked surface.

Ling admitted: "Billy's goal gave us a lifeline, which was important, and it was the proverbial game of two halves. I have got to hand it to the fans, they stuck with us - even when we were three down - and when we scored the first they got right behind us and never let up. That 4-3 win was for them."
