Cheltenham Town will meet Crewe in the League Two play-off final at Wembley on Sunday May 27 following a 2-1 win at Plainmoor last night and a 4-1 aggregate victory over Torquay United.
An unstoppable 87th minute free kick winner from Marlon Pack and Jermaine McGlashan's 75th minute opener sandwiched Torquay's sole goal by sub Tai Atieno.
Atieno's stooping header was scant consolation for a side who created a handful of gilt-edged opportunities only to be thwarted by Robins keeper Scott Brown, defender Keith Lowe and the woodwork.
Cheltenham boss Mark Yates said: “Torquay gave us some scares in the first half, they were excellent but overall I think we deserved to go through and now we have got Crewe at Wembley to look forward to.
“I am proud of the whole club and all the supporters - especially those who have travelled down to be with us here tonight – they have been fantastic and deserve their big day-out at Wembley.
“Crewe have beaten us twice and will fancy their chances but it’s exciting for us and we will let this sink in over the weekend and then do our homework on Crewe and it’s back to work on Monday.”
United manager Martin Ling said: “My feelings are pretty raw and I have told the players I am proud of every one of them.
“I feel we have had a right good go at it this season and it has just not come into fruition at the end.
“In the first half we have battered Cheltenham and done everything but score a goal and then second half we sort of died away.
“Over the two legs I felt that Cheltenham probably deserved their victory, but I think 4-1 is very harsh on us. But it all comes down to decisive moments and putting the ball in the back of the net and they did it better than us."
