COUNTIES CRICKET Devon host Somerset in T20 today

Devon host Somerset at Exmouth in the first of this season’s Showcase Matches today (1715 new start time).

The Showcase fixtures give supporters of the 20 National Counties the opportunity to see stars from the 18 first-class counties in action and National Counties players the chance to showcase their talent against full-time professionals.

The first-class counties also use the Showcase games as important preparation for white ball cricket with Worcestershire beating Herefordshire in a 50 overs contest at Eastnor on their way to winning last season’s Metro Bank Cup and Gloucestershire beating the same opponents, also at Eastnor, in a T20 double-header before they won the 2024 Vitality Blast.

Worcestershire will be back at Eastnor on July 21, this time for two T20 matches against Herefordshire, and they will also face Shropshire in a 50 overs contest at Worfield on July 7.

Somerset will again play two Showcase matches with today’s T20 Devon fixture followed by a trip to Wadebridge to play Cornwall in a 50 overs game on July 3.

Oxfordshire have a formal partnership with Sussex which has seen James Coles and Harrison Ward progress from the National Counties side to the staff of the first-class county at Hove.

That partnership continues and Oxfordshire will host Sussex at Magdalen College School in Oxford in a T20 Showcase game on July 6. Sussex will also host Berkshire at Horsham in another Showcase match on May 20.

Derbyshire will also play two Showcase matches as preparation for their Vitality Blast campaign, facing Cheshire at Nantwich on May 20 and Bedfordshire at Dunstable on June 5.

There are three Showcase games scheduled for Sunday July 19 – Northumberland v Durham at Allendale, Leicestershire v Staffordshire at Grace Road and Wales NC v Gloucestershire at Sudbrook – which are dependent on the progress of the respective counties in the NV Play National Counties Trophy or the Vitality Blast competitions.
