COUNTIES CRICKET Herefordshire host Gloucestershire

Herefordshire will face Gloucestershire in the first of this season’s Showcase matches between the 20 National Counties and 18 first-class counties at Eastnor on Wednesday June 12.

There will be two T20 matches between the neighbouring counties - starting at 10am and 3pm – rather than a 50 overs contest which has been the format for these matches which are now in their fourth year.

For the past three years Gloucestershire have hosted Wiltshire as part of the Cheltenham Cricket Festival so this will be the first time that they have travelled for a Showcase fixture, although it will be only a short hop across the county’s northern border for them.

Herefordshire, who reached the Super 12s stage of this season’s National Counties T20 competition, will make a swift return Eastnor having beaten Staffordshire at Clenchers Mill Lane in a National Counties Trophy match on Sunday.

But they will be without their captain Matt Pardoe and another former Worcestershire left-hander Taylor Cornall who are unavailable for the T20 double-header.

Jujhar Johal and Imaad Mohammad are recalled along with seamers Josh Holling and Charlie Williams with Ryan Kilminster and Harry Sockett set to make their Herefordshire debuts.

Kilminster, a slow left-armer, will be familiar to Gloucestershire as he played for them in a pre-season friendly against Glamorgan two years ago and plays his club cricket in the county for Frocester.

Batter Sockett is a product of Herefordshire’s youth system and the Burghill Tillington & Weobley club who now plays for Kidderminster and the Birmingham & District Premier League.

Entry to the Herefordshire v Gloucestershire T20 double-header at Eastnor is £5, payable at the gate.

This season’s remaining Showcase matches will be 50-overs-a-side contests and will be played between July 21 and 23.
