Brothers Alex and Ben Smeeth steered Werrington Cricket Club to their first Jolly’s Drinks ECB Cornwall Premier League title yesterday.
The East Cornwall side beat Camborne CC on the final day of the league season to pip St Just CC to the championship.
Camborne were bowled out for 137 with Seb Street taking 5 for 32.
Werrington lost two early wickets in reply but secured their first Cornwall League Premier crown thanks to an unbroken third wicket stand of 118 as skipper Ben Smeeth made 64 not out and brother Alex, an unbeaten 54.
Paul CC ensured their survival and relegated visitors Troon CC. Paul made 186 to gain the bonus points they required. They went on to win the game by 13 runs as Troon were all out for 173.
Callington CC beat St Austell CC by 95 runs after making 225-8 with Matt Robins making 78. St Austell were all out on 130.
Grampound Road CC made 131-8 at Falmouth CC, who were dismissed for 124 to lose by seven runs.
Newly promoted County Division 1 champions Redruth CC (198) beat Wadebridge CC (104) to end the season on a winning note.
• Today is a huge day for Cornwall as they start their first-ever, four day, Minor Counties Championship Final.
Play is already underway at Truro CC (Boscawen Park) with Cornwall opening the batting.
