NATIONAL COUNTIES T20 Cornwall edged out in final

Staffordshire showed their adaptability to win the National Counties T20 competition for the first time in an intriguing Finals Day at Tring Park.

Having made the highest-ever Finals Day total - 252 for two - to beat a much-fancied Berkshire in their semi-final, Staffordshire had to be resilient to edge out fellow first-time finalists Cornwall by four runs in a low-scoring but compelling finale.

Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket LeagueDefending champions Penzance gained maximum batting points on the opening day of the Bond Timber Premier League season.

Games were played in unbroken warm sunshine but the heavy rain earlier in the week was probably a factor in a number of low scores.

COUNTIES CRICKET Cornwall through to T20 finals

NCCA-Logo MasterCornwall and Staffordshire secured their places in National Counties T20 Finals Day in contrasting fashion on the final day of Group matches. 

Cornwall took control of their own destiny by completing a double over Devon at Cornwood which enabled them to overtake Dorset, who sat out the final round of matches, at the top of Group Two.

NATIONAL COUNTIES T20 Berkshire through to finals

Berkshire became the first county to book a place in this season’s National Counties T20 Finals Day with a thrilling three wickets win in the opening match of their double-header against Oxfordshire at Thame. 

Dorset
 missed an opportunity to wrap up Group Two and join Berkshire at Finals Day after they were beaten by five wickets by Wiltshire in the second match at Warminster.

NATIONAL COUNTIES T20 Dorset win three on spin

Dorset made it three straight wins in National Counties T20 Trophy Group Two with a six wickets victory over Devon in a low-scoring opening contest at Exmouth before rain washed out the second match.

Devon struggled to 92 for seven against miserly bowling with Rob Pack leading the way with two for 20 with good support from David Scott (one for 14) and Hampshire’s Ross Whiteley (one for 18).
