CORNWALL CRICKET: CALLINGTON SET PREMIER PACE

Cornwall Cricket crestRival East Cornwall cricket clubs Callington and Werrington set the pace at the Jolly’s Drinks ECB Cornwall Premier League summit after seven rounds.

Callington CC have opened up a 10-point lead following their 39-run home win over Falmouth CC at New Road.

Andrew Libby top scored with 45 not out in their 168-7 and then took 4 for 22 as Falmouth were dismissed for 129.

Second placed Werrington CC had to settle for a draw at third placed St Austell CC (145-9). Werrington replied with 134-7 from their 37 available overs, to finish 12 runs short of victory.

Fifth placed Truro CC just managed to defeat visiting Grampound Road CC (132) by two wickets. The hosts were indebted to Rob Harrison’s 48 not out to see them to victory at 133-8.

Paul CC won a dramatic home game against Camborne CC by eight runs. Paul recovered well to make 207-8 with Kelvin Snell scoring 60. Camborne’s last pair put on 63 but ended just short on 199 with Martin Jenkin, 80 not out.

St Just claimed their first win, by 91 runs at Troon. David Roberts made 109 not out and Gavin Edwards 68 not out in St Just’s 210-3 off 42 overs. Adam Williams then took 5 for 21 to bowl foot-of-the-table Troon out for 119.

In County Division 1 the top three - Redruth CC, Hayle CC and Ludgvan CC - all won comfortably.
